1950-1952

I

Music began to change after the 1949.  Jazz had already begun to gain a foothold in America, and Rock n' Roll was growing to be the number one music ever.

Many bands were from Britain and other  European countries.  But there were many bands that started out in the United States as well.

As an example, a band called the Coasters started out in the US in the early 50s.  This band is still active today!

Everyone either knows Elvis Presley or has heard his songs.  Elvis began to appear everywhere in the early 1950s.  He was later dubbed the "King of Rock n' Roll"

Music in the 50s brought people together all over the country.  Elves, the Coasters, and many other bands took the art of music and turned it into a fun, energetic, and inspiring entity for the whole world to enjoy!

The economy in the early 50s was a little shaky after the war.  As our troops returned from Europe, they wanted the jobs that they had had before.  These jobs had been taken by the wives of these soldiers, and they wanted to either keep the jobs, or continue working.  At the time, to see women working was almost frowned upon by the common people, so this was rejected.  Women eventually managed to gain the ability to work along side men, but it took a few years to do so.

The car came out at this time as well.  The Ford company was the most popular one until colored cars came out.  The company's quote was "You can have the car in any car, as long as it is black."  When cars started to come out in colors, people began to leave Ford.

At the beginning of the fifties, unfortunately another war began to break out, and this was the Korean War.  This war wasn't extremely long, but is was a brutal war between the North Koreans and the US and South Korea.  This war ended, but only a cease fire was decreed.  This means that the Korean War never officially ended, and we are still at "war" with North Korea.
